Happy New Year

OK, so I'm moved into the new Anderson compound, but I'm still waiting for my DSL to get working. So, I'm doing a lot of emails and such from the local Caribou Coffee.

Hang in there and I'll catch up soon...

Happy New Year!

Amen, Brother!

Why I'm obsessed with SuperMoine I'll never quite know, but it's one of those things that's been sitting in my "Blog Ideas" bookmarks folder for way too long.

The tale of a monk pushed too far by marauding vikings, this short animated film makes me laugh every time.

Keep an eye out for a surprise under the monk's robe (I caught it in slo-mo looking for a screen grab) and an errant rubber duck. Watch the credits too for a scrolling good time.

Tony Shalhoub's got nothing on this guy!

I'm Gonna Sit Right Down And Write Myself A Letter...

...because my email is back up and running!

If you were trying to reach me yesterday afternoon and evening, drop me another line.

Sorry for the inconvenience!

The Trouble With Emails

OK, now we've got the spamming tied down, but for some reason none of the emails from the site are getting to me.

GRRR!!!

We'll have this fixed soon; hang in there.

Peanuts Ghost Artist Passes Away

I thought this was interesting, if oddly late (the obit posted last evening)...

Artist and cartoonist Jim Sasseville, who attended art school with Charles Schulz in Minneapolis and worked with him in California for several years, died from Parkinson's disease at his home in Los Altos, Calif., on Nov. 30. He was 78.

The commercial artist was known for "his wit in his art," said his niece, Melanie Lesh, of Juneau, Alaska.

Sasseville, a native of Minneapolis, was an instructor at Art Instruction Schools of Minneapolis. There he met Charles Schulz, the creator of "Peanuts."

In 1958, Sasseville moved to California to ghost-draw Peanuts comic books for Schulz. Sasseville also did the art work for a comic strip that the duo produced for a couple of years in the late 1950s called "It's Only a Game." The strip had a sports theme and characters "who appeared similar to Peanuts," Lesh said. A book Schulz and Sasseville wrote about the little-known comic strip was published in 2004.

I'm Justifiable

So after looking at the new logo on the blog, I noticed that the columns in the dummy text weren't justified as they would be in a magazine or newspaper. So here's the newer version. Any thoughts?

My New Logo

OK, I have a lot going on, and I probably didn't need to throw a new logo for myself on top of it, but honestly, creating it was kinda soothing.

And now, without further adieu...

So whatcha think?

I wanted something that really said gag cartoon and I think I got it.

My wife came up with the torn look, and, thanks to various web tutorials, I got the wrap & column effects. The dummy text was generated by Lipsum.com, which also has some really cool info on the history of this kind of thing.

What I find most interesting about the end product is that is doesn't actually include any of my artwork, which, as my style continues to evolve, is actually a good thing I think.

Anyway, for those of you lucky enough to get emails, mailings or invoices from me, hope you like the new look.

(BTW, I tried a couple of logo creation sites featured in Wired first. A little advice; don't waste your time.)

Why You Aren't Getting Your Email Cartoons

Apparently some of the forms at our favorite cartoon site have been hijacked by spammers to send out their crap.

Don't worry, we're doing some tinkering under the hood and we'll have things up and running again soon.

Hang in there...

Anderson Family Christmas Letter

OK, so this year we finally succumbed to the dreaded Family Christmas Letter.

We've got a lot going on and even more coming down the pike, so I thought it was OK as long as we did something fun with it. There's nothing I hate more (well, OK, I hate having to gnaw my own leg out of a bear trap more) than the "we did this... little Billy did that... blah blah blah..." type of Christmas letter.

And now that's it's gone out to all of our closest family and friends, I thought I'd share with you nice folk.

Enjoy!

(It'll take a bit to load, but it's worth it.)

I'm Gonna Be A While...

We're buying a new house right around Christmas. Needless to say we're swamped.

So, hang in there for a while and I'll get back to posting more regularly soon...
